Beachcomber Holiday Park (at Potato Point) along with Clean Energy For Eternity hosted a human sign to spell out our local community energy targets of 50/50 by 2020.
50/50 by 2020 simply means a reduction in energy consumption by 50% and use of 50% renewable energy by 2020. This is a realistic target that together, all of the community can achieve. These targets set firm goals for our local shire areas, and have been accepted by the Eurobodalla, Bega Valley, Snowy River, Cooma Monaro and Mosman Shires. We cannot wait for our governments to determine greenhouse gas emission targets.
This sign was initiated by the Beachcomber Holiday Park, the crew down there organized and paid for the plane and the photographer. This local business is committed to assisting the community in reaching the 50/50 by 2020 targets.
The Beachcomber Holiday Park located at Potato Point is providing the community much more than the organization of a human sign, the very infrastructure of the Park is testimony to what can be done at a local level to mitigate climate change.
Beachcomber Holiday Park is set in pristine National Park. It has stand alone solar power generating all its on site electricity requirements. Water is collected on site for drinking purposes. Their waste water management uses a unique mounding system were vegetation grows and takes up the nutrients generated in the waste water. The three new cabins at the park are 5 star energy rated and each new cabin has a solar hotwater system, the rest of the parks accommodation will have solar hot water systems in the near future. The park recycles glass, cans and paper. This development is low impact and will continue to pursue a neutral carbon footprint.
The human sign offered the opportunity for the Holiday Park guests to participate in our community's overwhelming desire to tackle climate change from the grass roots level. Come along and give our community a human sign of our targets, this will be a welcome addition to the arsenal of aerial photos that mark and communicate the concerns felt about climate change in our community.
Clean Energy For Eternity was born out of a human sign in Tathra May 2006, this sign attracted 3,00 people, which was a staggering 10% of the Bega Valley Shire's population. We have hosted dozens of signs across SE NSW. The human sign is a unique and innovative way to get the message out that our community is serious about climate change.
Lance, our local photographer, sacrificed his holidays to hang out of a plane at well over 500 feet and took some great photographs of the sign.
The Beachcomber Holiday Park has just planted 800 shrubs as a part of its waste management system, this will more than offset the emissions created by the plane used for the aerial photography.
