Beachcomber Holiday Park - You'll want to stay forever

Environmental Innovation Award

The Excellence in Environmental Innovation Award is open to any Gumnut Award participant who has implemented innovative initiatives in relation to environmental, social and economic sustainability within their park and or/surrounding community.

Beachcomber Holiday Park was presented with its second innovation award in July 2010. We were also the winner of the inaugrual Environmental Innovation Award in 2008.

The areas of innovation were energy efficiency, water usage and wildlife education.

Energy Efficiency

The design and operation of our new amenities block incorporates numerous innovative environmental initiatives. Considerable thought, investigation and on site trials were undertaken over a period of many months before construction began.

Water Usage

Guests were asked to design signs to encourage everyone to have shorter showers. The best four were chosen and have now been erected in the shower cubicles, and do at least make people think about the water they are using.
Adjacent are 2 of the winning entries.

Biodiversity Conservation

Wildlife training and education have been another innovative initiative. Beachcomber Holiday Park is situated within Eurobodalla National Park and is home to many species of native animals and birds.
The Park's education initiative involved the establishment of a program that is run during the school holidays. It was decided that if the various animals were introduced to the children in a fun way, that they might have a better understanding of why it is so important to treat wildlife with respect. The program was developed by a staff member who is a Qualified Certificate 4 Trainer and Assessor.
